Word-matic
My son is very much into reading. Therefore, I am consciously selecting activities to feed his interest. I saw this spinny speller and also found crafty parents, who replicated this toy themselves. I decided to take shortcut and use a spiral bound notepad.

Word-matic
Materials:

  • 1 small spiral bound notepad.
  • Scissors
  • Marker

Instructions:

  1. Cut the pages in 3 equal parts
  2. Write all consonants on the outer pieces.
  3. Write all vowels on the middle pieces, preferably using a different color marker.

Word-matic
My son loved this. He entertains himself with it, building 3-letter words and sounding them out. This is a great learning tool which can be used with the guidance of an adult as well as by the children themselves.

You can also add digraphs such as sh, ch, th, wh, ck, ph, ng in addition to consonants as your child progresses in literacy.

Pin it for later:

I am a mother of two and a type of person who you would call “Jack of all trades, master of none”. As you might guess from categories, I love my children, reading, sewing, gardening, traveling and cooking. I also work full time so I have to be practical to do all the things I want to do in a 24-hr-day. More About Me
