Winter break is here!

Winter Learning Challenge is another great program for the kids over the break by Chicago Public Library. Since last summer these programs also involve LEARNing and CREATEing in addition to READing. The theme this winter is “learning  more about nature in your neighborhood this winter”. We did great winter activities from CPL website last year.

Winter Learning Challenge

Participants need to:

READ (book, magazine or website) for 20 minutes a day for 5 days of winter break
DISCOVER new information about nature in the city by doing 1 activity
CREATE 1 story, piece of art or design challenge inspired by the theme “Neighborhood Nature”

between between December 16, 2013 and January 5, 2014, log these in their Winter Learning Challenge Log and return your log to any CPL location by January 10, 2014 to be entered into a raffle to win an eReader.

There are five topics for children to explore:

  • Humans
  • Pets
  • Pigeons
  • Squirrels
  • Trees

This is also a great list of books on nature and animals by Chicago Public Libary.

I’ve already printed out our Winter Learning Challenge Logs. We’ll be at the library over the weekend to pick up our books.

I am a mother of two and a type of person who you would call “Jack of all trades, master of none”. As you might guess from categories, I love my children, reading, sewing, gardening, traveling and cooking. I also work full time so I have to be practical to do all the things I want to do in a 24-hr-day. More About Me
