As a parent, you learn early on that sleep cycle doesn’t work as logical with babies and kids, as it does in adults. The biggest advise for midnight and early wakers is to put them to bed earlier. Also the less day-sleep they get, the less they sleep at night. It goes pretty much the same for morning routine.
I have been waking my son up as late as possible to let him sleep 10 more minutes, but morning routine became worse and worse. He is grumpier. He has been protesting to go to school. When I inquired about the reason, he always complains the school starts really early. We have been catching the bus only as it was driving away or even missing it. Not to mention my constantly repeating “C’mon” and nagging.
He goes to bed around 8:30pm. He has to be on the bus at 7:10 with 5 min get-out-of-the-house-and-run/drive-one-block sprint. His biological wake up time is around 7:15-7:30 am. As most other kids he wakes up earlier than that over the weekends.
I decided to wake him up earlier upon my mom’s advise. (Yes, my mom is right, again) Against the logical expectation, that worked the magic. He is still semi-asleep when he gets up but he takes his time to wake up without me rushing him and nagging.
Now we have enough time so that he can move in slow-motion, eat his breakfast slowly, dress slowly and get ready by the door by 7:05 am.
I still think he is not getting enough his sleep. He cannot sleep earlier than 8:30pm either. We tried. Hopefully he recovers it over the weekend.
If you are constantly in fast forward and still not on time in the mornings, try waking up a bit earlier.
